Cable Cars in Baguio? Why Not?
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japan-based Zip Infrastructure Co. Ltd. to conduct a feasibility study for a cable car system called Zippar, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The Zippar system is slated for installation in Camp John Hay.
“The Zippar, or self-driven cable cars, set to be tested in Baguio City, could revolutionize urban public transport and serve as a model for green transportation. However, we must first complete the necessary feasibility studies before fully embracing this innovation,” said Bautista in a statement.
The proposed cable car system will be automated and controlled from a central command center, according to the DOTr chief.
“If we continue to advance public transport innovations, we can look forward to realizing the significant benefits these projects promise,” Bautista added.
