URDANETA - DIAMOND CITY OF THE REGION
Pangasinan Fifth District Representative Kimi S. Cojuangco branded Urdaneta as “Diamond City” of the region in her speech during the coronation night of the city’s 2010 fiesta. The immense advancements that the city acquired during the term of then Mayor Amadeo Perez, Jr., now Philippine Ambassador to Taiwan, and former Pangasinan 5th District Solon Mark O. Cojuangco, that continue to proliferate attest the remark. However, the legacy that Ambassador Perez and the former Solon left portends a tough fight for their substitutes to follow. “Mayor Bobom, we have a tough fight to follow but we can do great jobs because we have a good precedent”, Congresswoman Kimi said.
In her discourse, she mentioned of the Tarlac, Pangasinan and La Union Expressway (TPLEX), which is a highway extension of the SCTEX that she and the former Congressman took a major role in its inception and continue to watch through to its completion to guarantee ultra advantage to the district. It will pass via the eastern side of Urdaneta City and the town of Binalonan. However, its original plan to cut through Pozorrubio Market and Sison town plaza was met with strong defiance by the lady solon so it was moved farther to the west, away from the heart of both towns, to eliminate enormous devastation of a lot of farmlands and destruction of Pozorrubio’s prominent marketplace. The project has already started that signifies convenience to travelers and transport of commodities to and from Manila by travel time cut to approximately two to three hours.
The national government’s stand on the P350M bypass road project that is supposed to be passing through barangay Nancayasan to Sto. Domingo, Urdaneta City is still unsure. However, Representative Cojuangco assured that she is assiduously working for its implementation and will not cease doing it because it will generate immense boosting to the city’s economy.
She also took the occasion to announce the current status of the Dairy Farm in Maraboc, Laoac, which is a common ownership of all the eight towns and one city that comprise the 5th district of Pangasinan. “At the start, we only have one hundred heads of the imported Freshian/Sahiwal cow, a breed that perfectly matches with our climate, but now we already have five hundred of the breed and we are already capable of producing four hundred liters of fresh milk per day!” the Solon said.
The breeding and the production of fresh milk continue at an improved rate and she is now also aiming to be able to convince the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to subsidize a continuous free feeding program to all the district’s schoolchildren particularly those that belong to unfortunate families using the milk in Laoac.
