URDANETA CITY- City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio “Bobom” Perez IV said the Sangguniang Kabataan will likely be abolished and its youth representative in the legislative bodies in barangays shall be appointed by the local chief executives.
He gave the reactions during the “Ugnayan at Talakayan sa Silangan,” a media forum sponsored by the Metro Urdaneta Press Club (MUPC) last November 18 at the Executive Conference Room of the Old City Hall Building here.
“While I believe in the importance of developing our youth leaders, the youth representatives must not be politicized. To develop them, they should either be appointed by the mayors or a youth leader will be elected in the political mainstream and exercise,” Perez said,
This was in reaction to a query about his position on the proposed bill in Congress for the abolition of the Sangguniang Kabataan and that the newly elected officials will only serve their term until 2013.
Meanwhile, Perez said his administration is strengthening its war against illegal drugs in the city.
“I am in full coordination with our local police force and we have already tempered those operating illegal drugs in Bayaoas and San Vicente villages,” he said.
On the proliferation of snatchers and pickpockets in the city, Perez said that those criminals are not from Urdaneta City but from other places and have planned out operations against them especially during our fiesta celebration.
He said that the city fiesta celebration is all set on December 1-10 and that all measures for the orderly conduct of festivities are coordinated with the members of the Philippine National Police in the city.
The proceeds of the popularity contest, he said, will be used to purchase dumptrucks for the engineered sanitary land fill which will open operations in January 2011.
