Most of Nancayasan's residents were already asleep when the chilly air was pierced by the sirens of two fire trucks approaching the narrow alley leading to Brgy. Camanang.
A house had burst into flames and started spewing out thick smoke. What puzzles the firefighters and onlookers alike was that the house has long been uninhabited. The Nipales family who owned the property have left for abroad years ago. While reluctant to comment, neighbors suspect that a worker from the junk shop across the street may have thrown a burning ember at the aging structure. Others blame faulty electrical wiring.
However, until the police have released an official statement, these will remain to be hearsays.
The police are now investigating whether there was foul play involved.
A total of three fire trucks were deployed by the Urdaneta City Fire Department and the fire was contained and extinguished within an hour. It had been drizzling earlier in the evening and the air was damp which contributed to the quick aversion of the crisis. The PANELCO III also sent its crew to coordinate and check for a possible electrical angle.
The Nipales property has long been believed to be inhabited by ghosts.
