A Widened Road, A Gas Pump Opening and A Robbery at Burger Machine

Beat the deadline
The road construction on the crossroads of San Vicente and McArthur Highways seems to be progressing favorably.

Last week, we were concerned that they would not be able to complete the project in time before school starts next week. The traffic has already been hellish in that area during rush hours even without the asphalt slabs turned inside out. These days the jams have become more irritating and dangerous as IQ deprived motorists ignore traffic signs and make a counterflow so as not to have to go around the concrete barriers that protect the newly laid out concrete. Id**ts!

Fortunately, it looks like this portion of the road widening and rehabilitation project will be completed by the end of next week. From then on, hopefully it will be smooth sailing and cruising. That is until night time when huge-ass trucks use the well lit and smooooooth road as a rest stop. During the graveyard hours, several trucks park at the sidelines making the newly widened roads, well, NARROW - defeating the purpose of widening the damn road.

One of these days, a weary motorist could potentially ram his vehicle into the back of one of those monstrous trucks. Hopefully not.

Seaoil opens today

At least a hundred tricycles paraded around town with yellow and blue balloons tied around them. Blue and yellow being the flashy colors of Seaoil, the newest gasoline pumping station in Urdaneta City. With the ridiculous price increases in petroleum products, we can't help but wonder if this is really a good time to get into this business. Wish the investor all the luck - provided this station does not screw over the common people.

Another Gasoline station is about to be completed in brgy Nancayasan almost across from the Home Idea Superstore compound.

Robbery at Burger Machine

June 3, 2008 2:00AM – While the rest of Urdaneta City was deep in sleep, four still unidentified men robbed a lone Burger Machine stand early at dawn today taking 300 pesos in cash and the attending crew’s cellphone. The suspects were able to get away quickly in two motorcycles with two of them driving and the other two doing a ‘backride’.

The victim, Ramon (not his real name) went to the closest police depot to report the incident but found the police on duty asleep and had to be roused.

Whether the culprits were arrested, we do not know as of now.

The area around the PSU/PCST has always been notorious for robberies while nearby Mitura River as a hotspot for drug dealing. That is probably the reason why the police depot was put there in the first place.

With the cost of living reaching gut wrenching heights, it is no wonder that some people would resort to crime to survive. This however is not an excusable act. And neither is the police going to bed early. When the clueless but cash laden freshmen start arriving, security around the campuses and their vicinities must be at full alert. We ourselves, Urdanetans, should be involved. But the schools who primarily earn from these students should up their security as well. PUNP, PSU and LNL and the Urdaneta Police, gising po. We have just discussed security issues last week.
