Increased visibility of the police force where they are needed, especially around the school campuses. This effort is killing two birds with one stone as the government also gets to save on fuel expenditure and focus on other development projects like public schools and city parks .

URDANETA CITY-The continued increase in oil prices has prompted this city’s police authorities to initiate an environment-friendly project: police patrol on bicycles.
P/Supt Rodolfo Castil Jr, city police chief, said the city’s police bike patrol is the station’s contribution to energy conservation given the high cost of oil prices.
But only the younger policemen in the force are assigned to use the bicycles to reinforce those patrolling the city’s streets in cars.
Castil said the bike patrol is particularly effective in traffic-congested areas.
Meanwhile, police visibility has also been increased in all schools, colleges and universities around the city to preempt criminal elements that prey on students.
The “Cops- on-the-School” program, said Casil, serves as a preventive measure against crimes or any untoward incident.
“There is a need to make the police seen and felt,” Casil said.
The 101 policemen assigned to the program have been instructed to patrol all the school areas with special attention to those that are known to be favorite lairs of drug pushers and with known history of fraternity wars and other minor peace and order problems.
The program will be in effect during the entire school year.
