Political party has no bet yet for guv: lawmaker
By Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre
URDANETA CITY -- The Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) has not yet decided on who it will support for governor of Pangasinan.
This was clarified last Thursday by Fifth District Representative Mark O. Cojuangco, son of former ambassador Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, who is NPC chairman emeritus.
Mark is the NPC fifth district chairman. The NPC provincial chairman is Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr.
"Wala kaming (We do not have any) candidate as for now for governor. Sa buong Pilipinas (In the whole Philippines), the party's concentration is at the House of Representatives more than anything else," he said.
On the possibility that he might be running unopposed in the coming elections, Cojuangco said it is because everything is going smoothly in his district.
"Hindi ko pa alam kung may makakalaban ako (I do not know yet if I will be running unopposed). I'm just preparing. One should not be over-confident. One should always assume na may alternative sa kanya (that there is an alternative) so I always prepare," he said.
If given another chance to serve the district, he said he will complete the projects that he started and concentrate on the towns that were not given enough attention during his first two terms.
Cojuangco said his biggest project is the ongoing road widening in the city.
"I would like to be able to finish this, including the drainage we placed there. If possible, extend the project at least within the city limits, where the business establishments are, to reduce traffic in Urdaneta," he said. (Sunnex)
