Thoughts on the 2019 Elections and moving forward

First off, congratulations to all the winners. The elections may have ended but this is just the beginning. We look forward to a brighter future for our beloved city.

Second of all, we want to extend our thanks to our incumbent Mayor Bobom Perez. It was still a job well done. It was not perfect but hey, you cannot please everyone. Marami ring mga improvements ang nasaksihan natin during his term and yes, he deserves all due courtesy and thanks.

Also special thanks to the unsung heroes of this election (So we sing about it now). The teachers, the military and the police force who helped maintain the peace and order, not only in our own city but all over the country. Agyaman kami amin apo!

Next is the healing. Yes, a lot of shit was thrown around during the campaigns all for want of victory. Hindi na siguro yan maaalis sa politika. Kahit sa ibang bansa talamak din ang paninira sa mga kalaban. What we are happy about is that there wasn't any news of gun violence, injuries or at worse, elections-related deaths. And so for that, here's another round of applause to the candidates.

And now, the people have spoken, whether in their smart way or their stupid, uninformed way - that is how democracy works. Vox populi, vox dei. The voice of the people is the voice of God. It is now time to move forward and start with the healing, for all concerned and involved, from the winners, non-winners, supporters and as full-blooded #Urdanetizens. It is now our job - yes, all of us, to do all that we can to help our beloved city move in the right direction.

Wish List

Of course, we all have eyes and we notice things in our city and we have a few suggestions for it. Some may be new and some may be decades old and have not been addressed.

Better management of the tricycle fare system - If you have been following this page/blog you'd know that one of the biggest complaints of #Urdanetizens is the ridiculous fare that gets charged by tricycles. This needs to be studied and addressed. It is true that being charged Php70.00 pesos from CB Mall to Magic Mall is just downright a robbery.

Jeepney Loop - as a follow up to the above, an obvious solution is to have a jeepney loop system for our rapidly growing city. We have seen a public clamor for this to be implemented and why it was never addressed, we can only guess.

Reduced plastic use - as a consistent awardee as the cleanest and greenest city in Region 1, this is something that we are very passionate about. We urge the new government to have the political will to actually ban the use of certain plastic packaging to reduce plastic waste. This page will also constantly be posting ways on how, we, as common citizens, can help in this area, without making drastic changes in our daily lives.

On this note, we would like to remind all candidates to please remove and properly dispose of and/or recycle your tarpaulins. Likewise with the proper disposal of the plastic bottles and food carriers you gave out during your campaigns.

A public park - We are putting it here because it was part of your promises during the campaigns, dear Mayor/Vice Mayor-elect. :) We are sure that the people of Urdaneta City can't wait to see this materialize.

Marami pa! - there are tons more! We did not put all the others her because we want to hear from you. What are the other things that you hope to see improved in our city? Comment below, or on our page.
