URDANETA CELEBRATES 13TH CITY CHARTER ANNIVERSARY

The City of Urdaneta is celebrating its 13th City Charter Anniversary on March 21 anchored on the theme “Malinis  na Bayan Panatilihin, Matatag na Barangay Pasiglahin”.

A major highlight of the City Charter Anniversary celebrations is the “soft” launching of the Dumayo Festival which showcases the varied cultures of the Cordillerans, Muslims and Batanguenos as well as the Chinese and Indian communities who have settled in the city and contributed to its cultural evolution and economic transformation through the decades.  Floats depicting the rich culture and people of these regional and international groups are the attractions during the city parade on March 21.

Kicking off the City Charter Anniversary festivities is the BasbasngPag-iisangDibdib, a free mass wedding to be officiated by Mayor Amadeo Gregorio E. Perez IV on March 18 at the Balikbayan Hall.

On March 20, the Botak Pangkalusugan 6-K Fun Run will be held. Initiated by the City Government of Urdaneta as part of its healthy lifestyle advocacy, some 650 running enthusiasts have signed up to participate in the fun run which flags off at the Old City Hall at 5:30 AM. Part of the proceeds of the fun run will benefit supplemental feeding programs in the city.

A Thanksgiving Mass at the UCNHS Social Hall will start the March 21 City Charter Anniversary Day to be followed by the Dumayo Festival Parade at 8 AM. Afternoon activities include the Opening Program of the Regional Arts Festival, a three-day culture and arts competitions pitting schools from the entire Ilocos Region. A cultural presentation and the raffle draw for a cause will cap the day’s activities.

On March 24, the Urdaneta Pasalubong Center will be inaugurated at the Urdaneta City Public Marker Building B with Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim as Guest of Honor.
