Cop slain, 5 others hurt

A policeman was killed while five others were wounded in separate shooting and stabbing incidents after Christmas Day, officials said yesterday.

PO2 John Arvin Jacob, 35, an intelligence agent of the Urdaneta City Police Station, was on surveillance mission in Barangay Dilan Paurido when shot by one of two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen at 7:25 p.m. Monday.

Jacob died while being taken to the Sacred Hearth Hospital. Police Regional Office 1 director Chief Supt. Franklin James Bucayu said his men recovered a spent cartridge for .45 pistol at the scene.

The motive and identities of the suspects are still being investigated.


In Dasmariñas City, Cavite, PO1 Daniel Tan of the PRO4-A Regional Public Safety Battalionwas shot and seriously wounded by a man during a traffic altercation on Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Zone 4 at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

PRO4-A director Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, Jr. said the officer was rushed to the Korean Hospital in Trece Martires City.

Pagdilao said local policemen arrested Jorge Baoit, 53, jobless, of Barangay Salitran 2. Recovered from the suspect was a .25 pistol with two live bullets.

In Pampanga, PO3 Carina Santos of the Angeles City Police Station 1 underwent treatment of a gunshot wound at the Angeles City University Foundation Medical Center at 5 p.m. Sunday. PRO3 director Chief Supt. Alan Purisima said Santos refused to say what caused his injury.

The hospital security guard said an unidentified man took the victim to the emergency room but quickly left in a gray Toyota Vios (RGP-990).

In Bukidnon, SPO1 Joseph Magana, of the Dang-cagan Municipal Police Station in Bukidnon, was shot and seriously wounded by Richard Cabanday while resting inside his house in Barangay Poblacion past 2 a.m. Sunday.

PRO10 director Chief Supt. Conrado Laza said the suspect surrendered a .38 snub-nose revolver. The motive for the attack is still being investigated.

In Misamis Occidental, SPO3 Honorlito Suan of the Tubod Municipal Police Station in Lanao del Norte, was shot by Generio Lumacad while they argued over the entrance fee at a benefit disco in Barangay Mitacas, Baliangao Saturday night.

Suan was taken to the Calamba District Hospital before being transferred to the Oroquieta City Provincial Hospital. The suspect, believed to be under the influence of liquor, escaped.

In Sorsogon, PO1 Romeo Bilbao of the PRO5 Public Safety Company was stabbed and seriously wounded by two  men in Bulan town at 2 a.m. Sunday.

PRO5 director Chief Supt. Cecilio Calleja said  Bilbao tried to pacify a group of men arguing over a vehicular accident. Irked, Noel Gotiza, 29, and Rodolfo Marano,19, attacked him.

Bilbao shot the suspects in their legs. He was taken to the Sorsogon Doctor’s Hospital and the suspects to the Pawa District Hospital.  Criminal charges are being readied against them.
