DOST-SEI undergraduate scholarship program application deadline set on October 8,2010

 San Fernando City, La Union- Applicants to the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) undergraduate scholarship program have until October 8,2010 to complete and formalize their application. This was announced by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 1 office.

This 2011 Science and Technology Undergraduate scholarship program is open to graduating high school students both from the public and private institutions. For eligibility requirements, applicants must belong to the top 5% of their respective graduating class and must pursue priority fields of study in the sciences, mathematics and engineering.

The DOST has designed 2 categories for this scholarship program. One is RA 7687 scholarship, also known as the S&T Scholarship Act of 1994, which provides scholarships to talented students whose family’s socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators as approved by the Advisory Committee on S&T Scholarships. The second category is the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarships awarded to deserving high school students whose socio-economic status exceeds the said indicators.

Successful applicants are entitled to receive financial support to cover the following:

1) tuition and other school fees payment
2) book allowance
3) Physical education (PE) or National Sevice Training Program (NSTP) uniform allowance
4) transportation for one economy-class round trip fare for those studying outside their home province
5) monthly living allowance
6) group health and accident insurance
7) post-graduation clothing allowance

Interested applicants are enjoined to complete the required forms and submit the same to any DOST Regional or Provincial Office.These forms are available for download at http://www.sei.dost.gov.ph and at http://region1.dost.gov.ph. The nationwide examination will be on 21 November 2010 (Sunday) to be administered in various designated test centers nationwide.
