It was a roller coaster of emotions for us when Tepan Grill first opened at the Magic Mall Food Court a few months ago.
Excitement. Finally easy access to some Japanese food. No need for two hour drives to Baguio for some seaweed wrapped rice. Just two escaltor trips up and ...Banzai!
Diappointment. The food was bad at first. Rice was too cold. Presentation was falling apart. We are big fans of Japanese food, especially of sushi, sashimi and tempura and the food they served just didn't qualify. We vowed never to go back.
Redemption. Yesterday, while waiting for Wolverine (the movie) to start, we decided to give Tepan Grill a second chance and we were impressed. Check out the pic.
We ordered Mixed Sushi, California Maki and Kani Roll for only Php. 65.00 per serving. That is less than $1.40 each! The presentation was great and the food tasted much better (it has a lot to do with the rice). Tepan Grill has definitely improved. Mind you that it is actually just a stall in a food court. Nothing like Tokyo-Tokyo (We like to call it the Jollibee of Japanese food) or even Saisaki.
There is no tempura though. We will have to go to La Pia Taza for that. Besides, it is mostly carbs wrapped around shrimp eaten wih more carbs (rice again).
So when the next Harry Potter movie comes out, we'll go an hour in advance so we have time for some rolls!
