Smoggy days and chilly nights

For a few days now, residents of Urdaneta and the neighboring towns have been experiencing thick foggy-like, air all over as if it were San Francisco - only with that familiar burnt 'dayami' smell common during this time of the year after harvest. Recently, because of the favorable weather, it is as if all the farmers have agreed to burn the left over rice stalks on the same days, immediately after harvest.

Pretty as it is to look at, we are concerned that heavy smog like this that lingers too long is harmful to the lungs. The children are most certain to suffer first.

Also very noticeable these days is the brisk chilly air especially during the early mornings and late afternoons. After a summer of altrenating freaky typhoons and insanely scorching heat, this is welcome relief. We hope that this continues way into the first quarter of next year.
