And so it came to pass that a rocker finally won the top prize of the most popular singing competition on earth. After a very emotional season finale performance and a biting final comment from Simon Cowell, David Cook, an early favorite but at times questioned for the originality of his song arrangements was in tears upon hearing his name as the new winner.
We are all very happy for this victory and share the joy and celebration. Congratulations as well to David Archuleta. A worthy opponent. Great Fight!

So what does that have to do with the City of Urdaneta?
Nothing really. We have been following this show since Season 3 when Jasmin Trias almost made it to the Season Finale. Since the a number of other Filipinos have made it to the top 24 and top 12. Our other favorites include Jose "Sway" Penala and this season's Ramiele Malubay.
It had been depressing that we were not able to watch the season finale due to the unavailability of cable tv (USATV) as many of thier lines have been brought down by super typhoon "Cosme" and haven't been restored :(
But thanks to wireless internet connectivity (Smart Bro), we were able to watch snippets of the show thru various online video sharing networks (youtube, daily motion) so we were not totally at a loss.
As for Urdanetan Don Benito Manuel Sanchez, we are still proud of this fellowfor making it to the initial rounds of Pinoy Idol and even impressing the judges. He is still young and has many opportunities to shine as a singer.
For Mr David Cook, again congratulations.
