'Political dynasty' in Pangasinan looms

The so-called "political dynasty" may happen in Pangasinan.

There are father and son or daughter and husband and wife in the province running for different posts. The heads of the family are either seeking reelections or gunning for a different position after completing three consecutive terms.

League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) president and Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., who is seeking reelection, and his son, vice mayoralty candidate Ramon III, are unopposed.

In San Carlos City, Mayor Julian Resuello, who is on his third and last term, and his vice mayor son Julier are eyeing to swap positions.

Julier started his political career as Youth Council (YC) president in the city. He had been a barangay chairman before he became vice mayor.

In Dagupan City, former mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. is making a comeback. His son Alipio Serafin is running for councilor.

Also, Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim is running for congressman in Pangasinan's fourth district against House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. Lim's son, Marc Brian, is Fernandez's opponent for Dagupan mayor.

Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. is seeking another term while his son Amadeo Gregorio IV, Liga ng mga Barangay (LB) president in the city, is running for councilor.

Lingayen Mayor Ernesto Castañeda is unopposed. His daughter Sheila Castañeda Gonzales is running for councilor.

In Calasiao, Mayor Roy Macanlalay is seeking reelection. His son Mark Roy is running for councilor under his ticket.

Pangasinan fifth district Board Member Emmanuel Carancho is running for Urdaneta vice mayor, a position that is being occupied by her daughter, Charizzma Salud. Charizzma Salud, on the other hand, wants a Provincial Board (PB) seat.

In Natividad, reelectionist Mayor Alejandrea Supnet's son, Larry, is running for councilor.

In Pozorrubio, Emma Chan is eyeing the position of her husband, outgoing Mayor Art Chan. Their son Kelvin is running for councilor.

Meanwhile, Pangasinan second district Representative Amado Espino Jr. is running for governor. His son, Bautista Mayor Amado Espino III, is seeking reelection.

In the province's fifth district, it is an easy return to the PB for former board member Danny Uy as he and Carancho are unopposed.

Uy's wife, outgoing Binalonan Vice Mayor Myrna Bell Uy, is running for councilor while their son is a reelectionist councilor in Pozorrubio.

Meanwhile, Pangasinan Governor Victor Agbayani and wife Jamie lead the pack of husbands and wives running for elective posts.

Agbayani is running for congressman in Pangasinan's second district while Jamie is an independent candidate for governor.

Outgoing Bayambang Mayor Leocadio de Vera Jr. is running for congressman in Pangasinan's third district while his wife Melita is eyeing the town vice mayoralty post.

Pangasinan fifth district Representative Mark Cojuangco is also seeking reelection and his wife Carmen (more known as Kimi), who is running for Sison mayor, are unopposed.

Meantime, the Rosetes of Agno have been ruling the town for almost 30 years now. Agno Mayor Leticia Rosete is seeking reelection while her husband Wilson is a candidate for councilor.

Pangasinan first district Board Member Alicia Pulido and her husband Anda Mayor Nestor Pulido are both running for another term.

On the other hand, graduating Pangasinan Board Member Marlyn Primicias-Agabas is aiming for vice governor while her husband Tyrone is running for board member. (LCMY/Sunnex)
